The National Association of Music Merchants, otherwise known as NAMM, is a "non-profit association that promotes the pleasures and benefits of making music". Trade shows are held throughout the country where music takes center stage in all shapes and forms. The event itself is NOT open to the public, however, the entertainment in the surrounding areas such as the courtyard, Marriott, & Hilton stages, are all free and available to anyone who so happens to pass by which I do each and every year.
The best part about this event is you never know who you are going to run into. The NAMM show attracts all sorts of people from rock stars such as Eddie Van Halen to big time music producers like Randy Jackson. We were blessed last night with the presence of Stevie Wonder on the Hilton stage and all I can say is WOW! Within seconds, the floor was crowded with screaming fans and cameras were flashing. This is the kind of excitement that NAMM always delivers.
Another one of my favorite performances this year was the drum circle that ensued outside between the Hilton and the Convention Center. Who knows if this was a planned event or if a bunch of drummers just started doing their thing and it grew bigger, and bigger until the crowd was cheering and dancing along. Good times.
Last, but certainly not least, is the people watching. The NAMM show attracts all kinds of people and artists which is what I think makes it so special. You will find every type of musician/music lover here... Rock, Punk, Country, R&B, Metal, & Pop. They all gather here harmoniously in one place, for one thing, the love of music.
